Exploring Mixed Media and Collage
Ghost Ranch Retreat Center
Abiquiu, New Mexico
Imagine having a week to immerse yourself in experimentation with a rich array of art materials at your fingertips as you settle into the landscape one of our greatest painters, Georgia O'Keefe. Study O'Keefe's work as you discover more about your own visual language. Experiment with water soluble media that include pencils, crayons, tissue paper and paints. Discover how these materials interact with water resistant media such as oil pastels and permanent inks. Collect textures from nature through rubbings and prints. Learn how to transfer images from magazines and photocopies. Incorporate personal images and ephemera with these experiments to create unique meaning through collage. Gather them into a hand bound book to take home as a record of your creative journey. Gain experience with a variety of media while experiencing the flow of the creative process.
Demonstrations of various media used alone and in combination will be presented daily with ample time for personal discovery. You will experience the inspiring beauty of Ghost Ranch, taking time to gather lines, textures and colors from nature. This weeklong workshop is part of the annual summer Ghost Ranch Festival of the Arts which includes many wonderful events and opportunities to enjoy the land, the history and culture of the area and the arts.
Program packages that include tuition, lodging and meals range in cost from $1540 for a room with a private bath to $775 for tent camping.
